I got a "Returned Check Fee" to $39 posted to my account Friday. Weird. I do not write checks from my credit card. Tuesday I get my mail and realize that I have a letter from the bank that states, "The $14,000 check you tried to cash was returned due to insufficient funds." This is still weird as I do not write checks from that account.
There are so many things wrong with the letter and the $39 retunred check fee.
#1 - Since when do I, in my long history of banking, write $14,000 checks to anyone
#2 - Why do they choose to send a letter, and not a phone call? A bounced check of that magnitude does not deserve a telephone call???
#3 - After I speak to the customer fraudulent department I then get an email, yes email, saying there is fraudulent activity on my account.
Clearly I am aware of that now!!! My problem with this situation is that the bank representatives still didn't call me. Yes, they attempted every other avenue of communication, EXCEPT the phone call. The one way I would want to be reached if someone was in the process of robbing me for more than I am worth.
I just do not understand what the hell is wrong with people. Here is why:
The moron who took my mail and then proceeded to write a check, wrote it out to someones name?! YES, someones actual name. Keep in mind as well, had I had $14,000 laying around, they would have been able to take it, with the only question being, "How did you want that, $100's?"
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
I ask the very nice bank lady (who has now told me her life story about her husbands checks and how they come pre-printed), if I can press charges. She advises me that since they were not able to actually get anything out of me, that the bank can do nothing for me and I would have to go to local authorities.
You bet your ass I'm going to the police station. This is the the 2nd time in 6 months I have had to get a new credit card.
It is obvious to all involved that my mail is in jeopardy!
I truly hate my building.
