The Assistant Manager

***This story/rant is based on actual events. Names may have been changed to protect the stupid***

We are in a sales driven business. This means if you can do nothing else, sales should be your strong point. Albeit, I like to think of it as more of an education to our consumer rather than a sale. But, I digress...

With that in mind, sales are your number one priority and one should keep that as the main focus.

Yes, it is important that your team respect you by proven facts. Meaning, your numbers are reflective of the place you want your staff to strive towards. You must create an example withing yourself. Granted we are not all good at everything. This is why you choose key people as your team mates. They pick up where you lack.

As a manager, you keep things in order, you are to assure the environment is running smoothly. You are the 'go to' person for questions. You get answers and demand results. You smile and listen intently when they tell you stories about their lives, because you actually care about your staff. You care, because you know this will create an environment that people want to be in. This environment will drive them to work efficiently. If your staff hates you and cannot respect your decisions or understand why you make the decisions you make, then you will not last...

I say this, A.M. be very weary of how you tread. As decisions you make will impact your future.. And with no one to watch over you, to have your back, what will happen when the rebellion takes place?

I watch in anticipation of what will become. As I want so much for everyone to be successful, yet, we do bring it on ourselves.
